He's the 70s glam rocker who fell from grace, and this week a whole new chapter in the bizarre life of Gary Glitter's been penned. After two years and nine months behind bars, the convicted paedophile was released from jail in Vietnam on Monday. On Tuesday, he was booked onto a flight back to Britain, from Thailand. Here's where the story should have ended. But it's where it began.
This is how IRN covered the story, in hourly bulletins, compared with Sky News Radio:
Tuesday 19th August - Glitter refuses to board flight home.
2200 - IRN breaks the story. Sky News Radio - did not run until 0100 Wednesday.
Wednesday 20th August - Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, spends 24 hours in a Bangkok airport lounge.
Thursday 21st August - Glitter goes to Hong Kong, where he's turned away. He's forced back to Bangkok.
0500 - IRN runs audio with our Crime Correspondent Keir Simmons. Sky News Radio - Still running line about Glitter being in Hong Kong.
Thursday 20th August - Glitter is FINALLY put on a flight to Heathrow.
2000 - IRN runs audio with Keir Simmons - on Glitter's plane. Sky News Radio - reporter clip from airport.
So how did we do it? Well, Keir was booked onto THREE flights between Bangkok and London. Luckily, he sniffed out the right one - Thai Airways.
